Beautiful Kaia is a cattle dog mix looking for a fun and energetic family to call her own. Kaia came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. She is about 1 year old as of March 2017 and weighs in at about 30 pounds. This fun little girl is active and sporty, and ready for any adventure. She generally does well on leash, although she does get excited when she sees other dogs. She's a friendly girl and she wants to say hi! Kaia is also quite a love bug, and loves a good snuggle with her humans. Kaia has not had much training so far in her life, but she is smart and willing to learn, and will be a fun girl to bond with over basic training. Are you and your family looking for a fun canine sidekick to join you on your adventures? Mango and her adorable siblings Buttercup and Darby came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. These adorable puppies are shepherd-mountain dog mixes who are 4 months old as of March 2017. These pups are 20 pounds and growing! We aren't sure exactly how big they will be full grown, but they will be big! It's possible they will be in the 65 to 80 pound range as adults. Mango can be shy when meeting new people and dogs. Mango and her foster mom have been working with a trainer to overcome her fearful nature. Mango's adoption will include a complimentary training session from our trainer to help Mango get on the right paw with her new family. Mango's foster mom reports that although Mango likes to be in the same room as her human, she does settle down quickly in her crate or pen. Mango has a fun, playful side, loves most toys, and is responding well to house training. Mango is the most affectionate of her siblings. Her forever family should be ready to be showered with love from this sweet girl. If you would like to meet Mango, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet.http://therescueddog.org/2015/dog-adoption-application/

Meet Jas (pronounced Jazz), an adorable spaniel mix puppy who is looking for a forever family who will show him the ways of the world. He's a sweet little guy with a lot of potential! At about 6 months old as of March 2017, Jas is just now getting socialized with new people and other dogs. Jas will need slow introductions to both new people and new dogs. Once he feels comfortable with people, he can be very snuggly. He also seems to gain confidence when he is with confident dogs, and we think it would be best to place Jas in a home with a confident dog who can show him the ropes. According to his foster family, Jas is a smart puppy who learns fast. Training this guy will be fun and easy! He is working on his leash training, and he is already crate trained and house trained. He can be very playful but he knows how to calm down and enjoy some snuggle time with his people. Jas weighs about 14 pounds and we think he will top out in the 25 to 30 pound range full grown. If you would like meet Jas, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet.http://therescueddog.org/2015/dog-adoption-application/

Meet adorable Ruthie, who came to TRD from Tijuana. Ruthie is a beautiful doxie-spaniel mix who enjoys snuggling with her people. Ruthie lives with a dog and a cat in her foster home and does well with both. Ruthie does need slow introductions with new dogs, and seems to prefer dogs closer to her own size, in the 10 to 15 pound range. Ruthie can also be shy around new people, and would prefer a calm household where she can ease into her friendships with new people and new animals. Once Ruthie attaches to people, she is extremely loving and sweet. She does sometimes guard her people and will need a family who understands this behavior and will work on it with her. Her foster mom has already set the ground work for this and Ruthie's adoption includes a complimentary session with our trainer to make sure Ruthie gets off on the right foot in her new forever home. Ruthie is 2 and a half years old as of March 2017 and weighs in around 15 pounds. If you would like to meet Ruthie, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet.http://therescueddog.org/2015/dog-adoption-application/

Beautiful Shadow was originally rescued a couple of years ago off the streets of Julian by a good Samaritan, who intended to work with Shadow. His life took an unexpected turn and he could not give Shadow all the attention and training she needed. He did care for her and give her shelter, food, and love. He asked TRD to help with her and give her a better life. When we first met her, she was cagy and unsure of people, but she warmed up quickly in the presence of other dogs. Shadow is shy with new people, and has not yet accepted leash training. She prefers to be with other dogs and really warms up to both dogs and people with dogs quickly. She is smart and sporty and has a goofy and mischievous side once she relaxes. Once she gets comfortable with a person, she accepts affection and asks for snuggles. She also shamelessly snuggles with her canine foster siblings. Shadow is about 3 years old and weighs about 40 pounds. She is a real looker! She loves a good romp through the woods where she is being fostered and is good at sticking with the pack when she is off leash, but because she doesn't accept the leash she isn't ready for traditional walks. She will need a family who will be patient with her and work with her on her leash training. She is totally house trained and likes having a crate set up in her home so she can have a little hideaway. If you would like to meet Shadow, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch.http://therescueddog.org/2015/dog-adoption-application/

 . Autumn .

  • Cocker Spaniel
Sweet Autumn has had a tough start to life, but we are hoping to give her the happy ending she deserves. Autumn has been severely neglected her whole life. She was adopted as a young pup and almost immediately relegated to her owners' backyard, where she spent all of her time, alone and neglected. During her first 5 years she was fed a poor diet of mostly human scraps, and was not given basic vet care. Over time, Autumn developed both severe ear infections and diabetes. Thankfully, a good Samaritan recognized Autumn's dire situation and convinced her owners to relinquish her so that she could get the care and love she so deserves. Autumn's original rescuer reached out to TRD for help when her medical bills became overwhelming. (If you would like to support Autumn's original rescuer, please visit her GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/6e-autumns-medical-fund.) We heard Autumn's story, and saw her adorable face, and knew we had to help. Autumn is about 5 years old as of January 2017, and we are happy to report that she is in good health and finally at a healthy and stable weight at around 25 pounds. Autumn has a wonderful loving temperament. It's hard to believe given her story that she would like people at all, but she seems to relish in human company. She is happy to go for a nice walk or to snooze by her human friends' sides. She has a little get-up-and-go, and sometimes seems very puppy-like. Autumn lives with another dog and does fine with him, but she does not need canine companionship to be happy. She is really human-focused. Autumn is on a very manageable insulin regimen. It's still not clear if she will need insulin for the rest of her life or if her diabetes will continue to regulate with her improved health. Autumn also has some hip dysplasia. She manages just fine with this issue and it does not slow her down at all. Autumn's health issues have completely stabilized, and you would never know that she had such a dismal life up until a few months ago. Autumn is a shining example of the resiliency and spirit of dogs. If you would like to provide Autumn with the happy ending she deserves, please fill out an adoption application for Autumn on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet.http://therescueddog.org/2015/dog-adoption-application/
