  • Spayed/Neutered
Meet Calvin, and sweet and handsome schnauzer-poodle mix who came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. Calvin is a loving, cuddly guy who loves to be around his people. Calvin also loves meeting other dogs when he is out on his walks. He sometimes pulls on the leash (we are working on that!) to get a chance to say hi. Calvin would do well as a second dog, although currently he is the only dog in his foster home and does well as long as he gets snuggle time with his people. Calvin is fully house trained and likes his crate. He seems to have an adventurous side, and has enjoyed his trips to the beach! He will be a fun guy to bring to the park or to dog-friendly restaurants. When Calvin first came to us he didn't show any interest in toys, but he his figuring out how to be a dog, and now plays with his stuffed animals. According to his foster family, he has never gotten into trouble chewing on things he shouldn't, and he loves the blow dryer! Calvin is about 2 years old as of January 2017 and weighs in at a nice and sturdy 20 pounds. If you would like to meet Calvin, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet.

  • Husky, Shepherd
Beautiful Shadow was originally rescued a couple of years ago off the streets of Julian by a good Samaritan, who intended to work with Shadow. His life took an unexpected turn and he could not give Shadow all the attention and training she needed. He did care for her and give her shelter, food, and love. He asked TRD to help with her and give her a better life. When we first met her, she was cagy and unsure of people, but she warmed up quickly in the presence of other dogs. Shadow is shy with new people, and has not yet accepted leash training. She prefers to be with other dogs and really warms up to both dogs and people with dogs quickly. She is smart and sporty and has a goofy and mischievous side once she relaxes. Once she gets comfortable with a person, she accepts affection and asks for snuggles. She also shamelessly snuggles with her canine foster siblings. Shadow is about 3 years old and weighs about 40 pounds. She is a real looker! She loves a good romp through the woods where she is being fostered and is good at sticking with the pack when she is off leash, but because she doesn't accept the leash she isn't ready for traditional walks. She will need a family who will be patient with her and work with her on her leash training. She is totally house trained and likes having a crate set up in her home so she can have a little hideaway. If you would like to meet Shadow, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch.

  • Shih Tzu, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
  • Spayed/Neutered
Lucky's story does not have the most fortunate start, but we are going to make sure he lives up to his name with his new forever family! Lucky was hit by a car in the LA area. A good Samaritan brought him to a local pet ER, and from there we were contacted to see if we could care for and place Lucky. One look at this little cutie and of course the answer was yes! Thankfully, other than being shook up, Lucky did not suffer any injuries. When we first took Lucky in, it became evident that he had been an outside dog. His fur was matted, he had fleas, he didn't know how to behave in a house, and he was unsure of new people. His foster family has been working diligently to socialize him with their pack (both people and dogs.) It takes Lucky a day or two to trust new people, but he quickly becomes a faithful companion. His foster family reports that once he gets comfortable, he wants to be a lap dog. Lucky LOVES food, and begs for it any chance he can. Lucky does well with other dogs, although he does not yet understand how to play with other dogs, or dog toys. This cute little guy weighs in at about 12 pounds and we estimate that he is about 2 years old. If you would like to give Lucky the happy ending he deserves, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet.

  • Shiba Inu, German Shepherd Dog
  • Spayed/Neutered
Lovable Luna came to TRD from the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility. She had been abandoned there as a puppy of about 6 weeks. CHACF wanted to make sure she was properly taken care of and had her best shot at a great home so reached out to the local rescue community. One look at her silly ears and her unique coat, and we knew she was one of ours! Luna has been assessed by our vets at San Carlos Animal Hospital and has a clean bill of health. Luna is about 9 weeks old as of the end of January 2017, and has already shown that she is resilient and smart. As she grows into her puppy paws, she is emerging as active and energetic. Her foster mom also reports that she is sweet. loving, and playful. Luna has started socializing with dogs and people and seems to get along with everyone. (She hasn't met a cat yet!) She has the look of a shiba inu and the coloring of a German shepherd dog. If that is her mix, we predict (just a guess!) that she will be somewhere in the 40-60 pound range full grown. The fun part of adopting a rescue puppy is that you just never know! She is working on her house training and crate training. If you'd like to add this adorable girl to your pack, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet.

  • Cocker Spaniel
Sweet Autumn has had a tough start to life, but we are hoping to give her the happy ending she deserves. Autumn has been severely neglected her whole life. She was adopted as a young pup and almost immediately relegated to her owners' backyard, where she spent all of her time, alone and neglected. During her first 5 years she was fed a poor diet of mostly human scraps, and was not given basic vet care. Over time, Autumn developed both severe ear infections and diabetes. Thankfully, a good Samaritan recognized Autumn's dire situation and convinced her owners to relinquish her so that she could get the care and love she so deserves. Autumn's original rescuer reached out to TRD for help when her medical bills became overwhelming. (If you would like to support Autumn's original rescuer, please visit her GoFundMe page: We heard Autumn's story, and saw her adorable face, and knew we had to help. Autumn is about 5 years old as of January 2017, and we are happy to report that she is in good health and finally at a healthy and stable weight at around 25 pounds. Autumn has a wonderful loving temperament. It's hard to believe given her story that she would like people at all, but she seems to relish in human company. She is happy to go for a nice walk or to snooze by her human friends' sides. She has a little get-up-and-go, and sometimes seems very puppy-like. Autumn lives with another dog and does fine with him, but she does not need canine companionship to be happy. She is really human-focused. Autumn is on a very manageable insulin regimen. It's still not clear if she will need insulin for the rest of her life or if her diabetes will continue to regulate with her improved health. Autumn also has some hip dysplasia. She manages just fine with this issue and it does not slow her down at all. Autumn's health issues have completely stabilized, and you would never know that she had such a dismal life up until a few months ago. Autumn is a shining example of the resiliency and spirit of dogs. If you would like to provide Autumn with the happy ending she deserves, please fill out an adoption application for Autumn on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet.

Meet Brownie, an adorable chihuahua who is looking for her forever family. Brownie originally caught the eye of one of TRD's fellow rescuers, and she has been living with other rescued dogs while she awaits her new forever home. Brownie was overweight when she was rescued originally, weighing in at around 20 pounds. She has been watching what she eats and has slimmed down a bit. Her new family will want to make sure she's on the right track with her diet and exercise. That shouldn't be too hard, as Brownie loves a good walk. Brownie is playful with other dogs, and she is smart and sweet. She will be fun to train. Brownie can be shy at first when meeting new people and dogs, but she warms up quickly and her social demeanor shines through. She also has lovely manners in the house and is house trained. Brownie is around 4 years old as of December 2016, which is a great age to start life with her new family. She is over all the puppy stuff but still has many years of life and love to share. If you would like to meet Brownie, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet.

BamBam is a sweet and sociable chihuahua puppy looking for his forever home. BamBam loves to play with his canine companions. He is also a big fan of couch time with his human friends and is a champion snuggler. BamBam seems to understand at an early age when it's time to play and when it's time to chill out. BamBam is working on his basic commands like sit, down, come, and stay. He is also doing well with his potty training. He still has accidents from time to time, but at 5 months old as of December 2016, that is to be expected. He's trying, and he's almost there! BamBam weighs in at a whopping 3.5 pounds, and we believe he will top out at around 10 pounds when he is full grown.
